Welcome to our cfaed career development services. Here, you can find useful information about our graduate program and our offers within the cluster.

At cfaed, you will work in an international team – with 21 nationalities pursueing top-notch research. Hence, attracting and developing young international researchers is of utmost importance to us. Our research agenda requires a high number of well-qualified and highly motivated young researchers; moreover, the excellence of the scientists is key to maintaining cfaed as a state-of-the-art research institution. In addition to the Cluster’s scientific excellence, creating a strong output of superbly trained experts is one of the core missions of cfaed.

To achieve this, cfaed relies on three key characteristics: attractiveness through highly challenging research topics, an inspiring scientific environment, and a systematic career development allowing young researchers to progress quickly. cfaed’s career development approach comprehensively addresses undergraduate and master students, doctoral students, research group leaders, and young professors. It includes specific initiatives from talent attraction and recruitment to systematic development at every career level.

Program Overview

 

cfaed has developed an exemplary structured career development program with the purpose of supporting and guiding young scientists throughout their scientific career. Establishing career development as a standard tool for all career levels in academia, comparable to what is common practice in industry, is an ambitious goal of cfaed’s postgraduate program.

Onboarding

We want to make sure you have a smooth start into your new position! That is why we are in close contact with our future staff members already prior to their arrival in Dresden.

We collaborate with the TU Dresden Welcome Center, which offers a special service to make integration of incoming scientists from abroad easy.

Graduate School & Postgraduate Program

The structured Graduate School & Postgraduate Program includes the following main aspects:

(I) The Individual Development Reviews aim at supporting and encouraging young scientists in their current projects and the development of their career.

(II) The Training Modules aim at providing additional competencies and professional orientation.

(III) The Grant Program includes a variety of grants.  

 

Career Events

Throughout the year, cfaed Career Development offers a versatile agenda, amongst others:

Career Symposium: This event is designed to become a regular series specializing in individual topics, such as sharpening academic skills or improving social, communication and leadership skills, and providing professional orientation.

Summer Festival: The cfaed summer party is the perfect event to close the semester and to celebrate all finished PhD theses with a graduation ceremony. 

Dresden Microelectronics Academy: This one-week summer school has been introduced to showcase Dresden as Europe's largest microelectronics hub. Annually organized in late summer, cfaed aims to establish it as a further measure to dissemate its research and expertise. In addition, master students are introduced to TU Dresden, who thus avail themselves of the summer school in preparation for their further studies at TUD.

 

Career Advising & Counseling

The cfaed Career Development Team offers advice and support with questions concerning career entry and different career paths, analysis of strengths and weaknesses, the application process (check of application documents, advice for and simulation of job interviews) and appointment procedures. We also support the process of decision-making for a future career in or outside academia.
