Interference-Sharing Multi-Operator Cooperation Downlink Precoding in Wireless Communication Systems

Cooperation among mobile operators non-orthogonally sharing the communication resources can considerably boost network efficiency if the interference originated from the non-orthogonal communication is properly addressed. Utilization of standard precoding methods would re-quire sharing of sensitive information such as users’ signals and channel state information. This work is focused on a novel cooperative mechanism for downlink interference cancellation precoding where the exchange of any sensitive data is avoided. Instead, the operators share each other’s interference (a part of precoding matrix mixed by the users’ signal). The proposed interference sharing mechanism is based on the two level inter-ference cancellation precoding divided into inter- and intra- operator pre-coding implemented by Regularized Block Diagonalization (RBD) and Tom-linson-Harashima Precoding (THP), respectively. The mechanism is denot-ed as Distributed-RBD-THP emphasizing the algorithm decentralization.
Short Bio: Andrea Matera obtained the B. Sc. in Telecommunications En-gineering in 2012, then he received the M. Sc. in Telecommunications En-gineering (cum laude) in April 2015 from the Politecnico di Milano with the thesis “Tomlinson-Harashima Precoding for MU-MISO Wireless Systems” under the supervision of Prof. Umberto Spagnolini. From July 2015 to No-vember 2016 he is working at Politecnico as research assistant in the field of statistical signal processing applied to digital communication systems. Starting from November 2016 he will be a PhD student of the Politecnico di Milano in Information Technology on interference mitigation techniques in wireless/wired communication systems for multi-cell/multi-operator systems.
