ABSTRACT:

Energy consumption is a key aspect for the communication system design in the context of IoT with battery driven transceivers, ultra-high-speed wireless transmission at subterahertz frequencies and large-scale MIMO systems with a large number of RF chains. One established approach to obtain a low energy consumption is to consider data converters with low-resolution in amplitude, where especially the extreme case of only 1-bit quantization is appealing. However, such a coarse quantization demands for a sophisticated, low-resolution aware physical layer design. Besides a brief discussion about theoretical constructs for the description of the limits of communications, the seminar will cover practical transmit and receive processing techniques such as precoding algorithms and MIMO detection algorithms, which are considered in combination with conventional modulation schemes.
