cfaed Principal Investigator and Co-Path Leader Prof. Brigitte Voit Elected acatech Member

At the end of January 2016 twenty-seven scientists from different research areas were selected as new members of acatech (National Academy of Science and Engineering). One of the selected members is Prof. Dr. Brigitte Voit who is Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) of the cfaed cooperating institution “Leibniz Institute for Polymer Research Dresden e.V. (IPF)”. Within cfaed, Prof. Voit is Principal Investigator, Co-Leader of the CIP research Path (Chemical Information Processing) and member of the Steering Committee.
The new acatech members from engineering, natural sciences, humanities, financial and social sciences are selected annually by the acatech General Assembly. They are outstanding experts in their research areas and contribute to the thematic and multidisciplinary elaboration of recommendations for policy-makers and society. They stand at the interface of science, business and politics, thus providing the substantial work of the Academy.

The National Academy of Science and Engineering (short: acatech) was established 2002 as the German association that represents the interests of the engineering sciences. Currently there are 250 employees from science and business at the Academy. The most important aim of acatech is to advise policy-makers and the public on technical-scientific and political topics, thus implementing the expert knowledge into political decisions. Moreover, acatech provides an exchange platform between science and business, whereby the practice transfer is ensured. The Academy is endowed by donations and third-party funds from business and by the combined financial support of the Federal and State Governments.

Ende Januar 2016 wurden 27 Wissenschaftler und Wissenschaftlerinnen unterschiedlicher Forschungsbereiche als neue Mitglieder in die acatech (Deutsche Akademie der Technikwissenschaften) gewählt. Unter ihnen ist auch Prof. Dr. Brigitte Voit, die am cfaed-Partnerinstitut Leibniz Institut für Polymerforschung Dresden e.V. (IPF) als Wissenschaftliche Direktorin tätig ist. Im cfaed gehört Prof. Voit als Co-Leiterin des Forschungspfades CIP (Chemical Information Processing) zum Steering Committee des Exzellenzclusters und ist außerdem eine der Principal Investigators.
Die neuen Akademie-Mitglieder aus Ingenieur- und Naturwissenschaften sowie Geistes-, Wirtschafts- und Sozialwissenschaften werden jährlich von der Mitgliederversammlung der acatech gewählt. Sie sind herausragende Experten auf ihrem Gebiet und tragen zur themenspezifischen und disziplinübergreifenden Ausarbeitung von Empfehlungen für Politik und Gesellschaft bei. So nehmen sie eine Position an der Schnittstelle von Wissenschaft, Wirtschaft und Politik ein und tragen somit die inhaltliche Arbeit der Akademie.

Die Deutsche Akademie der Technikwissenschaften e.V. (kurz: acatech) ist ein 2002 gegründeter deutscher Verein, der die Interessen der Technikwissenschaften repräsentiert. Zurzeit arbeiten an der Akademie rund 250 Mitarbeiter aus Wissenschaft und Wirtschaft. Das wichtigste Ziel von acatech ist es, Politik und Gesellschaft in technikwissenschaftlichen und technologiepolitischen Fragen zu beraten und somit das Expertenwissen in die politischen Entscheidungen miteinzubeziehen. Außerdem bietet acatech einen Austausch zwischen Wissenschaft und Wirtschaft, wodurch der Praxistransfer gewährleistet wird. Die Akademie finanziert sich durch Spenden und Drittmittel aus Wirtschaft und durch eine gemeinsame Förderung des Bundes und der Länder.
