Image from cfaed Scientific Image Contest used for Honorary Certificate of TUD

We feel always delighted when official university bodies use entries from our annual Scientific Image Contest to design official documents, certificates, and similar items. It shows just how exciting scientific depictions can be and how easily the boundaries between science, art and design can blur in this context.

In the example shown, the motif “C8-BTBT Flower” by Dr. Katherina Haase adorns the certificate of honorary citizenship awarded posthumously to Christiane Schaufler-Münch by TU Dresden in recognition of her extraordinary commitment to science, art and education (read the full announcement here). She was honored for the close and long-standing support of THE SCHAUFLER FOUNDATION, which she co-founded, and its support for TUD.

The image shows organic semiconductor crystals that were grown from the solution-phase. The "C8-BTBT flower" is composed of the popular, high-mobility semiconductor C8-BTBT and grew at the end of a solution-sheared film from the residue material. The motif “C8-BTBT Flower” was submitted in our 2021 call. Katherina Haase works as a postdoctoral researcher at the Chair of Organic Devices.
