Congratulations from the Cluster: Prof. Dr. Karl Leo, Leader of the cfaed research path “Organic/Polymer“, received the Hector Science Award 2013. The graduation ceremony for the award was held on 31st January 2014 in Heidelberg. 

The Hector Foundation II honored the outstanding research performance of the TU professor in the area of organic semiconductors as well ashis contribution to the improvement of the efficiency of Organic Light Emitting Diodes and solar cells. Furthermore, the jury appreciated the successful transformation of scientific results to industrial application and the constitution of the new master course “Organic and Molecular Electronics“at the Technische Universität. Karl Leo, director of the TU Institute for Applied Photophysics since 1994, is a role model for young science talents and students, the jury says.

 

“The Hector Award recognizes our long term successful work with organic semiconductors“, Prof. Karl Leo says, who is currently working as a visiting professor at the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology in Saudi Arabia. “This has been made possible by the great engagement of the staff members at the Technische Universität Dresden, but also at Fraunhofer and at outsourced companies.” The award dotation of € 150.000  will be used to support the scientific work of the professor.

 

Prof. Karl Leo is now part of the “Hector Fellows“ circle.  The Hector Foundation II honors excellent scientists of German elite universities. They are outstanding by high quality and successful scientific work, especially engaged in teaching and interdisciplinary development of their university. By the network of the “Hector Fellows“, the university synergies and the scientific exchange shall be promoted.

 

Further laureates of this year are the deep-sea researcher and geo-microbiologist Prof. Antje Boetius of Universität Bremen and the medicine Prof. Christoph Klein of Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (http://tu-dresden.de/aktuelles/news/hwp).

cfaed-Pfadleiter Karl Leo erhielt Hector Wissenschaftspreis 2013

 

Glückwunsch vom Cluster: Prof. Dr. Karl Leo, Leiter des cfaed-Forschungspfades „Organic/Polymer“, hat den Hector Wissenschaftspreis 2013 erhalten. Die mit 150.000 Euro dotierte Auszeichnung wurde am 31. Januar 2014 in Heidelberg verliehen. Damit würdigte die Hector Stiftung II die herausragenden Forschungsleistungen des Dresdner TU-Professors auf dem Gebiet der organischen Halbleiter und seinen Beitrag zur Verbesserung der Effizienz von organischen Leuchtdioden und Solarzellen. Darüber hinaus hebt die Jury die erfolgreiche Transformation von Forschungsergebnissen in industrielle Anwendungen hervor und lobt die Gestaltung des neuen Master-Studiengangs „Organic and Molecular Electronics“ an der Technischen Universität. Der langjährige Leiter des TU-Instituts für Angewandte Photophysik sei ein Vorbild für Nachwuchswissenschaftler und Studenten.

Prof. Karl Leo nimmt zur Zeit eine Gastprofessur an der King Abdullah University of Science and Technology in Saudi Arabien wahr. Das Preisgeld von 150.000 Euro wird zur Unterstützung der wissenschaftlichen Arbeit der Professur verwendet.

Mit der Auszeichnung wird Prof. Karl Leo in den Kreis der „Hector Fellows“ aufgenommen.

Weitere Preisträger sind die Tiefseeforscherin und Biologin Prof. Antje Boetius von der Universität Bremen und der Mediziner Prof. Christoph Klein, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (http://tu-dresden.de/aktuelles/news/hwp).
