Prof. Alexander Eychmüller, Chair for Physical Chemistry/Electrochemistry at TUD will host the physicist and worldwide leading expert in the research on nanocrystals. On 3 July, Klimov will give a public lecture at the TUD Cluster of Excellence for Microelectronics to present his research in the area of nanocrystal quantum dots and optical amplification in nanocrystals.  He will be lecturing on recent developments in American nano-solar research.

In 2013, the Russian scientist received the €60.000-award of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation which aims at supporting research stays in Germany. Thus, the Physicist plans to visit Ludwig Maximilian Universität (LMU) in Munich. At the physics department of LMU Munich, he will visit Prof. Jochen Feldmann, coordinator of the Cluster of Excellence Nanosystems Initiative Munich.

Victor Klimov completed his doctor of philosophy (PhD) and doctor of science (D.Sc.) degrees in Russia at the Moscow State University where he studied condensed matter physics and laser optics. He then moved to the Institute for Semiconductors at RWTH Aachen as an Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellow. Since 1995, he has worked at the Los Alamos National Laboratory in the United States. Klimov is director of the Center for Advanced Solar Photophysics in Los Alamos, which is working under the supervision of the US Department of Energy.

The Center for Advancing Electronics Dresden (cfaed) is the Cluster of Excellence for Microelectronics of Technische Universität Dresden. This research platform unites eleven partner institutes with about 300 scientists who are working in the fields of electrical engineering, computer science, material science, physics, chemistry, biology, and mathematics.

Humboldt-Preisträger Victor Klimov kommt als Gast zum cfaed der TU Dresden

Der Humboldt-Preisträger Victor Klimov vom Los Alamos National Laboratory (USA) kommt am 22. Juni für drei Wochen als Gastforscher an das Center for Advancing Electronics Dresden (cfaed) der Technischen Universität Dresden (TUD). Der Physiker und weltweit führende Experte für Nanokristalle wird in dieser Zeit am Lehrstuhl für Physikalische Chemie, Professor Alexander Eychmüller, tätig sein. Am 3. Juli wird er in einem öffentlichen Vortrag am TUD-Exzellenzcluster für Mikroelektronik seine Forschungsarbeit im Bereich Nanokristall-Quantenpunkte und der optischen Verstärkung in Nanokristallen vorstellen. Insbesondere will er aktuelle Erkenntnisse der US-amerikanischen Nano-Solar-Forschung präsentieren.

Der russische Wissenschaftler erhielt im vergangenen Jahr den mit 60 000 Euro dotierten Preis der Alexander-von-Humboldt-Stiftung, der mit längeren Forschungsaufenthalten in Deutschland verbunden ist. So wird der Physiker nach seinem Aufenthalt an der TUD Seminare an der Physik-Fakultät der Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München halten. Hier wird er bei Prof. Jochen Feldmann, Koordinator des Exzellenzclusters Nanosystems Initiative München, zu Gast sein.

Victor Klimov promovierte an der Moskauer Staatlichen Universität, wo er sich mit Festkörperphysik und Optischen Lasertechnologien beschäftigte. Er ging dann zunächst als Stipendiat der Alexander-von-Humboldt-Stiftung an das Institut für Halbleitertechnik der RWTH Aachen. Seit 1995 arbeitet er im Los Alamos National Laboratory in den Vereinigten Staaten. Klimov ist Direktor des Center for Advanced Solar Photophysics in Los Alamos, das dem US-amerikanischen Energie-Ministerium unterstellt ist.
