On Monday, 14 September 2015, the TU Dresden, the Cluster of Excellence cfaed, together with Globalfoundries and X-Fab welcome over 40 students and scientists from nine nations in Dresden to the 14th edition of the prestigious Dresden Microelectronics Academy (DMA). The busy week’s program introduces the participants to Dresden as Europe’s leading microelectronics hub.
The DMA attracts participants who are fascinated by the latest innovations in the semiconductor industry and want to gain practical first-hand and expert knowledge. Top lecturers will familiarize the participants with the fascinating world of semiconductors. Guided tours with industry professionals offer a deep insight into some of the most compelling work environments for leading engineers. The DMA aims at promoting the dialog about today’s and tomorrow’s challenges for this pioneering, society-changing industry.
The organizational team is made up by TU Dresden’s Chair for Semiconductor Technology and the companies Globalfoundries and X-Fab. For the first time in 2015, the Cluster of Excellence for microelectronics cfaed (Center for Advancing Electronics Dresden) contributes to the event with specialist presentations and lab tours. The City of Dresden and other companies of Dresden’s microelectronics industry are supporting the DMA as official sponsors. Dresden’s Mayor Dirk Hilbert will welcome the international participants at the opening session. The program is filled with inspiring talks given by various members of TU Dresden and cfaed, Globalfoundries, X-Fab, Nanoelectronic Materials Laboratory (NaMLab) and other institutions. On Wednesday evening, a high-profile panel discussion about ‘Microelectronics Tomorrow and Individual Careers’ will be hosted by Prof. Johann Bartha from TU Dresden. The panelists include Dr. Gerd Teepe from Globalfoundries, Dr. Walter Weber from cfaed/naMLab, and Roberto Gärtner from X-Fab. An industry bonding event has been organized for Thursday where the participants will have the opportunity to speak to senior industry representatives.
