Advanced Materials brings you every week the latest breakthroughs in applied research across the boundaries between physics, chemistry, and biology of functional materials, systems, and technologies. This year, it is exactly 30 years ago that Advanced Materials saw the light of day, first as a special focus section in Angewandte Chemie in 1988 and from 1989 onwards as an independent journal. In the meantime, Advanced Materials has grown out to become a highly visible forum for the very best interdisciplinary materials science, demonstrating its ongoing success with a 2017 Impact Factor of 19.791 and a Web of Science listing in six different topic categories.

To celebrate the 30^th anniversary of Advanced Materials, Technische Universität Dresden will host one of this year’s AM30 Symposia on Monday-Tuesday July 16-17, organized in collaboration with the Advanced Materials editorial team. The theme of this AM30 Symposium will be centered around “Advanced Carbon and 2D Materials”, highlighting some of the excellent science being done in this rapidly developing area as well as the role of Advanced Materials in it, and featuring some of the key contributors to the field and the journal.

The Dresden AM30 Symposium will be held at Technische Universität Dresden, Building "Alte Mensa" on Dülferstrasse (Festsaal, second floor) in Dresden, Germany on July 16 - 17, 2018.
