Who will pay my pension someday…? Information event on pension rights for internationally mobile researchers

09.02.2015 (Monday) , 14:00 - 17:30
TU Dresden, Dülfersaal at "Alte Mensa" , Mommsenstr. 13 , 01069 Dresden

The German Pension Landscape - information event for all internationally mobile researchers at TU Dresden and its partner institutions in DRESDEN-concept e.V.

The TU Dresden Welcome Center invites you to join its pension event. It will be held in English language in the TUD Dülfersaal, Mommsenstr. 13, 01069 Dresden.

As researchers, you are part of a highly skilled and mobile workforce. Especially due to your high level of mobility, questions and uncertainties may arise when it comes to your social security and old-age pension provision.
You may – or may not – be aware that every researcher with a contract of employment pays a contribution towards the German statutory pension system, the Deutsche Rentenversicherung (DRV). In addition to the DRV, all employees of the University are insured in an occupational pension scheme for the public sector, provided by Versorgungsanstalt des Bundes und der Länder (VBL). If these terms sound somewhat confusing and/or if your pension seems too far away to think about, then this event is for you!

In order for you to better understand and plan your pension, we want you to be equipped with adequate information on this complex and increasingly important very diverse topic. The TU Dresden Welcome Center staff is frequently asked questions about how to move between pension systems in general, and concerning rights and benefits during your stay in Germany. Therefore, we have invited experts from both the statutory (DRV) and supplementary pension scheme (VBL) to shed light on these questions for you.

Our information session aims to answer questions such as:

  • Do I qualify for a pension in Germany?
  • What pension benefits can I expect?
  • Will I still be entitled to collect a pension from Germany once I leave the country?
  • If I do not qualify for a pension, how can I have my contributions reimbursed?
  • What do I need to do in order to collect my pension on retirement?

The DRV and the VBL will be on site to represent the German pension landscape. In addition, you will be introduced to an information portal called FindyourPension.eu. This website portrays the various pension providers within the different European countries and provides concise information for each country.

After the event, short individual consultations with the DRV and the VBL are offered (15-20 min).

Please register online by 01.02.2015 via e-mail to: welcome.center@tu-dresden.de for the event as well as for the individual appointments, which will be assigned on a first come, first served basis.

When you register for a consultation, please provide your name, date and place of birth, nationality and German social insurance number to allow the experts to prepare for your consultation.

We are looking forward to seeing you at the event.
