"Connecting Chemistry and Chemists" is our slogan for this lighthouse event in the world of chemistry and science. These evocative words summarize our twofold brief: to perfect the quintessential chemical activity of combining atoms into ever new molecules and materials with defined property profiles, and to strengthen the ties between chemistry and its sister disciplines. In the UNESCO International Year of Light, we have chosen physics as our partner. The conferring of the Nobel Prize for Chemistry on physicist Stefan Hell, who will be one of the numerous illustrious speakers in Dresden, is a sign of our resolution to move forward on the path to integration. "Interdisciplinary tailoring" is also the guiding principle of many of the symposiums organized by the GDCh divisions.
Further highlights are a German-Japanese symposium on materials chemistry and another on the art of synthesis.
