TU Dresden launches the new six-week trial program TryING for young women who have a high school diploma and are interested in a career in engineering. In different workshops and at research stations, the participants will learn what the engineering studies at the TU Dresden include and can then find out which engineering discipline suits them best. Moreover, the company excursions will provide practical insights into later professional life and show how varied the day-to-day work of an engineer is.
With TryING, the participants can start their studies at the TU Dresden well prepared for the winter semester as they will have already completed a part of the preliminary courses. The cfaed strongly supports this new offer of the TU Dresden and sponsors up to five scholarships. Please contact Dr. Sylvi Bianchin or Daniel Knöfel in this regard.

On 10 April 2018, cfaed’s second CAREER SYMPOSIUM took place and resulted in interactive bonding sessions, interesting career talks by professionals from in and outside academia as well as individual interviews with company representatives. More than 95 Master’s students, PhD students and Postdocs with an educational background in physics, chemistry, material science, computer science and electrical engineering took the opportunity to listen to diverse career stories of cfaed alumni and senior managers.
“With this event, we implemented a new format which was made available to international MINT students and postdocs. Other than at the typical bonding fairs, the participants were able to get in contact with each other, meet at individual interview areas, ask questions they would never ask in job interviews and do some networking with their scientific community,” says Karl Leo, cfaed’s Career Development Director.

For the second time, TU Dresden organizes the "Be WISE conference" which is addressed to female young scientists and junior research group leaders of selected DFG coordinated program (remaining places can be given to other female scientists from TU Dresden). Be WISE will take place in November 2018. Besides keynote speeches by renowned researchers, the three-day conference will provide an opportunity for the participants to attend numerous workshops (parallel workshops in English). During a fireside chat with experienced female professors (role-models), the participants will be able to get into a conversation with them on pathways in research and possible obstacles.
The Center for Advancing Electronics Dresden (cfaed) and CRC HAEC are co-organizers of this conference. Moreover, cfaed's Career Development Manager, Dr. Patricia Grünberg will offer a workshop on "Appointment Training for Future Professors".
