The completion of the new cfaed building (south wing of Barkhausen-Bau at TUD campus) is largely done. While in some of the laboratories still a bit work has to be done, the offices are now ready for occupation. In May and June, many of the previously scattered cfaed groups moved in, including the Chairs for Organic Devices, Compiler Construction, Network Dynamics and Processor Design as well as the research groups "Biological Algorithms" and "Networked Embedded Systems". The team of the Dresden Center for Nanoanalysis (DCN) has also taken possession of its new offices and laboratories. The administration of the Cluster of Excellence can now also be found in the new building, occupying rooms I66, I67 and I75 to I78.

How the bicep tenses is no longer a secret. In every muscle cell there are so-called myofibrils, which contract at the same time. They are responsible for muscle movement. Each of these fibrils represents an exact pattern of hundreds of identical units consisting of different protein molecules. However, it is not yet understood how these individual building blocks arrange themselves into highly regular patterns during embryonic development or healing processes. An interdisciplinary team involving the physicist Dr. Benjamin Friedrich (Center for Advancing Electronics Dresden - cfaed, TU Dresden) has now acquired a research contract from the "Human Frontier Science Program" to investigate this question.

The paper "Model-free inference of direct network interactions from nonlinear collective dynamics" by Prof. Marc Timme, cfaed Strategic Professor and Chair for Network Dynamics, co-authored by researchers from Max Planck Institute for Dynamics and Self-Organization (MPIDS), has been recently published in the renowned Complexity Collection of Nature Communications. In this paper, researchers demonstrated a model-independent framework for inferring direct interactions solely from recording the nonlinear collective dynamics generated.

Last year, cfaed had the honor of providing its laboratories at the TU Dresden for filming the new image film about the Digital Hubs in Saxony. This year is even better - the unusual work made by the Saxon film production company significant.pictures won the first prize at the WorldMediaFestival in Hamburg. The film convinced the jury in the category "Government-to-citizen".
