Every two years the DATE conference makes a stop in Dresden. It is a prime, international event for all industry and science stakeholders involved in the design and engineering of Systems-on-Chip, Systems-on-Board and Embedded Systems Software. Apart from the participating scientists, TU Dresden is also represented at the accompanying exhibition with a joint booth of 5G Lab Germany, the Cluster of Excellence ‘Center for Advancing Electronics Dresden’ (cfaed) and the Collaborative Research Centre 912 ‘Highly Adaptive Energy-Efficient Computing’ (HAEC).

The European FET OPEN project MEMO (Mechanics with Molecules) is organizing the 2nd international Nanocar Race (Nanocar Race II), which will take place in 2021 at the CEMES-CNRS in Toulouse, France. The pre-registration for Nanocar Race II is now open and will close at the end of June 2018. The race is organized by an international committee around the cfaed research group "Single Molecule Machines" under the direction of Dr. Francesca Moresco.

Investigating the Doping of Organic Semiconductors: Research Group at the Center for Advancing Electronics Dresden (cfaed) Simulates Doping Mechanism

A group of physicists from the cfaed at TU Dresden, together with researchers from Japan, were able to demonstrate in a study how the doping of organic semiconductors can be simulated and experimentally verified. The study has now been published in “Nature Materials”.

In semiconductor technology, doping refers to the intentional introduction of impurities (also known as dopants) into a layer or into the intrinsic semiconductor of an integrated circuit. These dopants are deliberate modifications of the semiconductor, with which the behavior of the electrons and thus the electrical conductivity of the intrinsic material can be controlled. Even the smallest amounts of dopants can have a strong impact on the electrical conductivity. Electronic modifications by doping make semiconductors functional in all major electronic devices – the backbone of the electronics industry.

On Saturday, the "DRESDEN EXCELLENCE AWARD. Science Award of the City of Dresden" with a total prize money of 30,000 euros was awarded for the first time. With this prize, which will be awarded annually in future, the state capital of Dresden, together with the network "Dresden - City of Science", would like to provide ideal support for TU Dresden's application within the “Excellence Strategy”. Authors are honoured for outstanding scientific theses that are of particular importance for the City of Dresden and Dresden's perception as a scientific location. In total, there were four award winners in the categories Bachelor, Diplom/Master, Doctorate and Habilitation.

The Cluster of Excellence Center for Advancing Electronics Dresden (cfaed) at TU Dresden is pleased and proud to announce that Dr. Tim Erdmann, a former doctoral student of the cluster, is among the prize winners. cfaed's Executive Board congratulates Dr. Erdmann on this great success.

Sachsens Umweltminister Thomas Schmidt besucht heute das Kurt-Schwabe-Institut für Mess- und Sensortechnik e. V. (KSI) in Meinsberg bei Waldheim, um sich über die dort stattfindende Forschungs- und Entwicklungsarbeit zu informieren. Das KSI gehört zu den zehn kooperierenden Forschungseinrichtungen im Verbund des Center for Advancing Electronics Dresden (cfaed) und blickt bereits auf eine über 70-jährige Geschichte zurück. Am KSI wird auf dem Gebiet der Mess- und Sensortechnik geforscht. Die rund 40 Mitarbeiter setzen sich aus Chemikern, Biologen, Physikern und Ingenieuren zusammen. Seit 2010 wird das Institut von cfaed Principal Investigator Prof. Dr. Michael Mertig (TU Dresden) geleitet. Er betont: „Das KSI orientiert sich vor allem auf die Entwicklung von kostengünstigen, miniaturisierten und netzwerkfähigen Sensorsystemen, welche vor Ort – also direkt in der Umwelt und Landwirtschaft – eingesetzt werden können.
