“It is nothing less than a new level of the digital revolution“, Professor Gerhard Fettweis, Vodafone Chair Mobile Communications Systems of Technische Universität Dresden, says. The coordinator of the Center for Advancing Electronics Dresden (cfaed) is heading a common initiative by German research institutes and industrial companies presented at the German computer fair CeBIT in Hannover on March 10th, 2014. Globally, multi-billion amounts are invested in this area of research – e.g. by the notion of 5th Generation of Mobile Communications (5G).

On 7 March, cfaed scientist Robert Brückner receives the Emanuel Goldberg Award for his excellent PhD thesis in the area of organic electronics, completed at the Institute for Applied Photo Physics (IAPP).The prize with a value of € 2,000 is also awarded to Hans Kleemann, who completed his doctoral degree at the same institute. “Saxony was my favorite next to the Californian Silicon Valley”, Siavash Ghiasvand says, an ambitious 28-year-old PhD student of computer science from Tehran. The Iranian applied for PhD positions in the USA and in Dresden. “Here are so many computer companies producing really top hardware. This is an optimal base for me as a software specialist.”
